THE UTIMATE GUIDE TO TREKKING IN THE MOUNTAINS

Updated: Nov 24, 2019

When I was a child, mountains would always amaze me and I used to fantasize about reaching the peak of a mountain and touching the sky with the belief that the sky would be right next to me. I imagined playing with the clouds and moulding them into different shapes and on my way back, I would excitingly collect some clouds to make cloud breads in the hopes that eating them would make me fly like a fairy. But the problem was that I didn’t know how to reach the top! Very silly and fictional right? Well,we all loved imaginary cartoon characters and aspired to become like them one day!

Growing up, I was always inquisitive about mountains and wanted to know everything about them but remember, that I didn't know how to climb to the peak of the mountains? Thankfully that is not the case anymore because now I have the precious treasure of knowledge about trekking, hiking and many more funfilled activities that can be carried out in the crevices of tall mountains. Ever since then my inquistiveness to know about mountains has increased day by day.

I have started attending university and obviously I have realised that all those childhood fantasies were just sweet lies and the reality is much further away than what we have seen on cartoons. However my aim to reach the peak of a mountain is constant and since I know about mountains and its activites more than before,I have become more fascinated an passionate about them. But mountain trekking isn’t a piece of cake! It requires a set of rules to be followed before and while trekking.

To begin with, you should find a well trained trekking expert who is well educated about mountains and it is highly recommended to get the help of local experts since they would be aware about the weather cnditions of the mountains in their country. Although all mountains look very similar and have rocky structures, only real experts understand the mountains and how trekking techniques differ from one mountain to the another. Thus it is very important to go with a trekking expert because they know mountains more than anyone else (Mekanagadde Homestay, 2016).

In addition to this you need to set a target distance to be covered since we cannot trek as much as we want in a day because if the limit of a person's trekking ability is crossed, one might fall sick affecting the entire trek. Thus it is not permitted to climb more than 300 meters a day (SCHLICHTER, 2017).

One also needs to be physically fit before going on a trek since it’s a matter of long hours and sometimes even days. Hence it is very important to be physically fit and mentally prepared for such a journey to avoid altitude sickness (MORRIS, 2016).

We all are aware of how important it is to conserve our environment and this rule helps in doing just that. In order create an awareness, individuals trekking or involved in any mountain activities are warned to avoid anything that can harm or damage the natural flora and fauna of the mountains.

Am I forgetting something? Oh Yes!Food. While in the mountains, one needs to carry the right amount and kind of food especially those which are easy to prepare and consume.Along with this, you must carry enough water because staying hydrated is very necessary since trekking includes a lot of walking and climbing (Werner, 2017).

Among the many rules such as having personal insurance, medicines, packing the right number of clothes suited to the weather of the mountains, etc ,One very crucial rule is to have fun and enjoy the trekking experience to the fullest because it is not a moment one gets to experience everyday.

Are you as enthusiastic as me who loves mountains and its activities? Well I booked my recent trekking trip with Reise to Hajjar mountain which is known to be the highest mountain in the Arabian Peninsula (KELLY, 2017) and I had the best experience of my life. What are you waiting for? Book now and indulge in beauty of hajjar mountain. Get and experience like never before only with Reise.
